Political Logic

RSS

I wonder if all the uniformed teens on Tumblr actually are smart enough to understand politics. Looking at my dash…that would be a no.

Recently, I’ve been walking through many different walks, and of course not many agree with me. Abortion is a common topic I butt heads with. In some cases, when the mother’s life is in danger, or the child will never receive a fruitful life due to birth defects, I think it’s up to the parents. Of course, I also think babies should be adopted out more than aborted. However- that’s not my main concern during this post.

Many people state Row v Wade- about how they like it or dislike it. More often or not, the surprising claim I hear from both sides, is, “Well the president will overturn it!” Now, I don’t know how long these people have been out of school…but it’s a bit obvious. The president, of my knowledge of course, I maybe have been told wrong through all my life, is that the President cannot overturn Supreme Court decisions.

Now, this is apparently surprising to many people. Even staunch Republicans apparently didn’t know this. There are only two ways (Legally, probably more shady tactics of course, but I’ll leave that to another post), to get a supreme court verdict overturned. One, the Supreme court rewrites their verdict. So they technically go back on what they have said, if you wish to be blunt.

The second is by amending the constitution.

Okay, so tell me how does a president, Republican or Democrat, suddenly magically possess this power? Because if they haven’t for god knows how long, then why would Romney or Obama have it now?

Bullying

Since I’ve gotten a influx of messages about this- And I’m a bit tired of restating my statement I’ll just write a small post about it.

I’ve been told many times that it’s okay to bully one group- because they are narrow-minded. Or as many people quote Dan Savages comments, it’s okay because they should have been thicker skinned Christians, and they believe in bullshit. Well I highly doubt all of them, or any of them, agree on bullying -anyone-. Atheists can claim this to they are blue in the face. Most of us sane individuals -in this generation-, have been told many things.

Slavery is wrong. We fought a war over it. Hurting other people is wrong. Murder is wrong. Stealing is wrong. As time went on, we heard from most of our parents, Bullying is wrong. Logical people, I’ll ask, “Do you really think that we ignore what our parents say at that age.” but I know that really doesn’t work here. This generation is more tolerant than gays than the previous generations. I know this for a fact.

However it seems people are so easily blindsided by the fact that one person is this and another person is that. Dan Savage made comments about how you shouldn’t believe ‘bullshit’. As a Christian, I wasn’t really offended. If he wants to believe things wrong about how I perceive the bible and Christ/God, then he can. That’s his right, just like it’s my right to believe in what I believe.

However when he started to make jokes about calling them pansies, that’s where he turned from a smart man, to a hypocrite. He says that it’s because they are Christian. Well tell me, are stereotypes always right? Are all gay men flamboyant as all get out, and are all lesbians somehow afraid of dresses?

Are all Vegetarians in PETA? Are all meat eaters some crazy trigger happy killers? He judged on a stereotype, that all people believe this “Bullshit”. I don’t. So he’s turned wrong. A lot of those children who walked out claimed, “I felt attacked and bullied.” I bet you did. Because he did attack and bully you. I heard one boy claim he walked out because the Holy Spirit told him to. To all you Atheists, that’s our moral compass. Just like yours. Just with a fancy name attached to it.

So before anyone tells me it’s okay, think about this. Would you be outraged if someone up there was saying that everyone who had cancer deserved to die? That every gay person needed to be ‘put in care’ to get better? You would be pissed at those people wouldn’t you? So why can the people who were attacked be angry? Dan Savage is a hypocrite. I don’t care what he said about the bible.

He attacked children based on stereotypes, which is bullying if you people haven’t figured it out yet.

Someone has recently brought up to me through many messages that Christians have just as bad people beating children, and being narrow minded. I thank you people for giving me these links that show that they are just as illogical as the rest of us because they are human. Doesn’t matter about religion or race, they are human.

People, humans, are disgusting creatures at their worst. We murder, maim, and kill. But at our best, we save lives, put a smile on someone’s face, and give birth to new life in a loving home. Yes, thank you for repeatedly stating that Christians are humans, and so is everyone else. I have never claimed that all Christians are sane minded individuals. Some people hide under our religion, claiming that they have the word of god, when they need to be institutionalized.

Just because we have hypocrites, doesn’t mean you don’t. Dan Savage, in point, is a hypocrite. Not because of what he said about the bible (Obviously he doesn’t believe it in the first place) but bullying children who left of their own free will, which goes AGAINST his Anti-Bullying policies. So yes, I do know people who are sending me messages, we have our crazies just like you do.

Dan Savage calling Christians "pansies" or to not follow the "bullshit" parts of the bible does not make him less credible. He isn't bullying him because honestly what he is saying is the truth and he knows what it is like to be bullied. He is a very brave, intelligent and humorous man. He gives amazing hope to people everywhere. If narrow minded people (majority who happen to be christian) are allowed to bully gay kids and Dan gets criticized for calling them pansies, then that's ridiculous

This makes little sense. So you’re saying bullying is okay, because people are “narrow-minded” as you claim? This has nothing to do about what he said, he’s a hypocrite. He bullied children and something that people hold dear, what he’s against. What he said doesn’t make him less credible, it that he is a hypocrite. I could care less what he thinks about Christians. I for one am a Christian, and I don’t give a flying rat what he thinks about us. I’m not narrow minded at all.

But in answer to your message, he’s not losing credibility because of his biased thoughts, he’s losing credibility because he’s a hypocrite. That’s simple to understand.

Missing Logic?

I just talked to someone today, about Obama and Romney. She had a few good points, up to the point where somehow her logic fell off the turnip truck. Obama didn’t kill OBL. The Seals did. OBAMA didn’t do anything. Anyone would have gone and killed the guy. But he didn’t take the gun, and kill him. No, he only gave the order. He did nothing special in my opinion. The Seals did. Those people risked life or limb, to kill our enemy.

Obama sat in a room, stone faced across the sea, watching. He did nothing special, only gave the order. Many people claim Romney wouldn’t have done it. I highly doubt that. Why? Even if he didn’t want to do it- America did. His VP, his advisors and everyone else under that white roof, would have said to give the order. He would have done it.

He said he wasn’t going to spike the ball. Attacking Romney for not doing that? Any president would have. He was the enemy of America. I’ve read that Seals are livid that he’s using this as some political campaign device. Even the Huffington post disagrees with him using it as a campaign device. For all the kids, Huffington usually aligns itself with the Left- what you’re going to be voting for when you get your okay to vote.

Now a lot of people say this is Payback for Bush. …Aren’t you the people who said he was better than Bush? That he was smarter and more mature? More capable of the job? Why would he stoop to the same level?

Occupy

Am I the only person in this green earth to think these people are completely different from the Tea Party? Don’t get me wrong, they are both groups protesting, but I don’t remember too many bomb threats coming from the Tea Parties side. (Link me if I’m wrong.) I’ve heard too many stories about how people are raping, defacing public property, private property, and hounding innocent victims, (The pencil pushers, not the Fat-cats.) and saying it’s okay, because they’re part of the 1 percent.

How can you be part of the one percent, when you’re just scraping to make by? I’ve seen stories about innocent people just walking to work, not using the back entrances like the normal upperclass business men and women use, and they are spit on, threatened, and ridiculed. If you had a job, wouldn’t you be happy? To pay those student loans, to work in college, to have a home where you wouldn’t have to worry about job security? It makes little sense why those ‘Fat-cats’ are your issue. It’s the economy.

Now I don’t know too much about the Occupy’s theory. I do know that they think that the people for the economy crisis (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for one) should be held responsible. I do think that. Democrats themselves helped bail them out. So I don’t understand why you should be thinking that having these big protests and hurting the little man is going to do for you- but lose your credibility (Which in my case, you have).

I know a girl who claims it’s the best thing, she works in it, and she does what she can for the movement. It’s not because she cares- she told me straight to my face, that she’s miserable working. That she shouldn’t have to work because she would be miserable, and people should pay her to stay home. I would gladly pay for her ticket to move to Europe. This might not be everyone in the movement, but every time I turn around more young adults think this way.

That is selfishness.

Dan Savage

Don’t get me wrong I think the whole, “It gets better” is a good message. I am a Christian, and no I think the bible is more of a guide than a law that we have to follow everything in. But he’s bullying Christian kids- and Christian people. He called them pansies. (Though I know he could have done a lot worse), so…how is he Anti-Bullying, if he’s Bullying someone? It makes little sense.

As someone who thought he was somewhat credible, and his show was somewhat amusing, this does make me think less of him. Not because of his views on the bible, he’s free to that, but bullying and calling a way of life and kids ‘pansies’ and obeying ‘bullshit’, isn’t Anti-bullying at all. There isn’t a fine line, there isn’t a crisis of words. This is, he bullied children- and he’s against it. He’s a hypocrite.

I’m sending this message out to ALL of my gay friends, regardless of political affiliation. Dan Savage, founder of the “It Gets Better” movement, was invited to speak a few days ago at a national high school journalism conference. He was asked to speak about his anti-bullying movement; during his speech, he began using profanity and eventually began spewing invectives against Christians, saying at one point “ignore all that bullshit in the Bible!” When Christian students quietly walked out in protest, Savage called them “pansy asses” and mocked them.

This is reprehensible behavior coming from a man who claims to want to stop bullying. The only media outlet currently reporting the incident is Fox; regardless of what you may think about Fox, over a hundred teens who walked out have confirmed the events and the Journalism Education Association refused to actually apologize to the students who were mocked during his speech. I disagree with what some Christians say, too, but we will never win any hearts or minds if all we do is insult them. What’s more, this is not the first time Savage has bullied certain groups with hate speech; he also said once, “I wish all Republicans would just die.”

I’m asking all of my gay friends to call him out. I plan on posting a YouTube video sometime this week. If you’re on Twitter, mention it and use the hastag #DanSavageDoesNotSpeakForMe. No matter what your beliefs are in the political realm, I’m asking everyone to send the message that NO bullying should be tolerated - no matter who it is directed towards.

Government

From a outsider, I don’t know too much about government. In fact I was raised on the fact that we shouldn’t rely on government. But for all that- I do think we should rely on government for some things.
